• Introduction

  I am a web all-rounder based in Melbourne, Australia. Over my twelve years in the web industry I’ve worked in a multitude of different technologies in a number of roles including front end development, design, backend programming and UX design. I seek challenging and interesting work with employers that share my views in workplace practices and socially responsible clients.

• Direction

  As this industry moves so quickly it’s pointless to try and determine five year plans/goals. Instead my direction is determined by what this I find that are interesting to work with. Currently I’m interested in the organisation of information. This can be by interface or by a more intangible form, such as music genre.

• Technology

  Currently, I find complex client side and server side JavaScript applications to be quite interesting. In terms of backend technology, Ruby is my tool of choice. This is usually paired with Rails although recently I’ve been getting more use out of Sinatra. UX design is another interest along with general application design. I’m an enthusiastic supporter and developer of open source.

  MediBank Insurance Calculator

  The most complex JavaScript application that I have developed, this calculator is used for working out insurance premiums. Complex UI (sliders) coupled with no database (JSON stores instead) plus cross browser compatibility down to IE6.

  Know Your Genre

  KnowYourGenre is social website to find the best examples of songs for each genre of music. This site was concepted, designed and built entirely on my own. It’s stage one in a two stage project to produce a timeline of music from prehistory to the modern day. The site is popular and gaining visitors daily.

  ShopFront

  ShopFront is a Rails 2 based e-commerce application designed to interface with Apparel 21’s data restful API. It handles displaying products, maintaining a cart and handling payments via a credit card gateway. The URL below demonstrates this product in use by a client of Apparel 21

  RosterConnect

  A standalone rostering application written in Rails 2. Of particular interest is a calendar application that features an infinitely scrolling calendar with a drag/drop interface for adding shifts.

  OpenSource

  I have an interest in contributing to open source, both as a way of expanding my skills and getting feedback, as well as giving back to the community that has supported me. Current open source applications developed by me can be found on my github account.

  RealEstate API

  This is a personal project of mine. It is a service that collates data off various real estate companies websites (e.g. LJ Hooker) and makes it accessible through a rest based API. This involved some interesting technology in scraping and processing websites, as well as API design. Not currently available for view.

  Intrepid Travel

  Involved in the project to redesign and rebuilt intrepid travels website.

  Sea World, Movie World, Wet'n'Wild

  These redesign and rebuild of these websites was undertaken while I was freelancing for Igloo Design. I was first brought on board as a FED but position soon expanded to a producer like role where I was managing an internal team of developers and liaising with the head of sales and marketing for the parks.

  Tekkenpedia / Wikitoria Network

  These are another couple of personal projects, of note because of the amount of visitors I’ve managed to attract to the website, currently 3500 uniques per day. This is a good example of the power of producing content that people are interested in vs. spending money on marketing.
